MARTIN Paterson's 40th minute strike was enough to send Burnley into a half-time lead at Gigg Lane.
Paterson, who has been a constant thorn in the Bury side, netted after Stephen Jordan's deep cross from the left had taken out a static Shakers defence.
Bury have had their chances, with Elliott Bennett having a shot tipped over and Stephen Dawson also having an effort saved by Burnley goalkeeper Brian Jensen.
Arguably Bury's best chance of the half came in the 44th minute when Ben Futcher headed wide from six yards after Dawson had pumped the ball into the box.
However, Burnley have looked impressive going forward themselves, with Chris Eagles and Paterson both going close before the striker finally made sure and opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time.
