PAUL Scott says Bury’s success this season will be built on sound foundations at the back.
Scott is part of a back five that has conceded just two goals in three league games.
The Shakers have stormed to joint top of League Two thanks to three victories out of three, and new signings (goalkeeper) Wayne Brown and Efe Sodje have slotted in seamlessly alongside Scott, Ben Futcher and Dave Buchanan.
Bury were not at their best in the victory over Morecambe on Saturday, but Scott believes it is a good sign that the team managed to still come out with their perfect start to the season intact.
“It wasn’t pretty to watch at times but we ground the result out based on a solid defence,” said Scott. “Once we get our noses in front, we make it hard for the opposition to get back into the game.
“We’re still winning games, but we’re not getting carried away.
Scott has been nominated as North-west player of the year in League Two, and the former Huddersfield Town ace said it came as a pleasant surprise.
“I didn’t know anything about it, until I saw it on the internet but it was nice,” said Scott. “I like to play every week and give everything I’ve got. Hopefully that is enough.
“It’s certainly good to be captaining a winning team. It’s nice to be giving the fans something to shout about.
“The spirit has been really good since the manager came in and you can see that on the pitch. The results are coming now.
“The confidence is there, and when you are winning you just want to get out there and win another game.”
Rochdale are next up for Bury, and Scott knows the importance of a good result.
“We’ve had a lot of success over there down the years and we are in the best frame of mind possible so hopefully we can get a result there,” said Scott. “We will take a lot of fans over there and we always look for the fixture when the fixtures come out. It’s just a matter of going there and getting the right result now.”
