PAUL Scott does not subscribe to the theory the Shakers have peaked too early.

Being top of the league after eight games might not win you any silverware, but the Bury skipper is content to lead from the front.

Scott has seen his fair share of hardship in the four years he has been at Gigg Lane and believes his side deserve their chance to shine.

“Some people say you shouldn’t hit the top too early, but as long as your form is good and you pick up points, you’ll stay there,” he said.

“It’s nice to be there when you put the Teletext on in the morning. It gives you a lot of confidence because there are a lot of good sides in League Two and we are top of the pile.”

Scott has been satisfied with playing his part in a winning team at right-back, a position he has not been completely at ease with in the past.

Yet the 28-year-old Yorkshireman has still made an impact, including a goal in the 2-1 home win over Morecambe at the end of August.

“I’m the captain and I have played in every game so far, so I can’t complain,” he said. “It’s not my favourite position, a lot of people know that and the gaffer knows that, but I’m doing a job for the team and I’m involved, so that’s the main thing.”
