SHAKERS midfielder Stephen Dawson admits he would like to add more goals to his game.
The 22-year-old Dubliner has been one of the main driving forces behind Bury’s rise to second in League Two, and he has impressed many observers with his all-action displays.
Dawson scored just four goals in 114 appearances for his previous club Mansfield, and is yet to get off the mark for his new employers.
“I do want to add goals to my game, but it’s hard at the minute because the manager is telling me and Brian (Barry-Murphy) to protect the back four,” said Dawson. “But the main thing is that we are winning and if that involves us protecting the back four and the strikers scoring the goals we will take that every day of the week. The main thing is the team.”
Dawson is also enjoying playing alongside fellow countryman Barry-Murphy in the Shakers’ engine room and added: “Brian’s been around a couple of years now, he knows what it’s all about.
“He’s a great player, a great talker and I can learn an awful lot from him. But also we have got Richie Baker who can come in and do well and we know if we don’t put in a performance he will come into the team because he can do a great job too.”
