Bolton's Wylde boosted by Gigg move

First published in Sport by

BURY have moved quickly to plug the gap left by winger Dominic Poleon by snapping up Wanderers midfielder Gregg Wylde on a month’s loan.

The 21-year-old former Rangers player will be at Gigg Lane initially until December 22, and will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s League One match at home to Bournemouth.

The move follows Leeds United's shock decision to recall goal-scoring midfielder Poleon to Elland Road on Tuesday, 24 hours after agreeing to extend his stay at Bury until the new year.

Wylde is yet to make a full first team appearance for Bolton after a protracted move from Ibrox to the Reebok last March and is eager to get back to first team action at Gigg Lane.

“I’ve been out for a long while now, so it will be good to get some games under my belt,” said Wylde.

“It’s a massive boost for me, and hopefully, if I can put plenty of good balls in the box for the strikers to score, it will benefit Bury as well.”

He was signed by former Whites boss Owen Coyle in March after Rangers entered administration, on the understanding that the player’s contract had been terminated so he could move as a free agent outside the transfer window.

Fifa, however, did not agree, and refused to grant him international clearance, meaning he was unable to take any part in the Wanderers’ ill-fated fight against relegation from the Premier League.

After playing in a handful of pre-season matches, Wylde is yet to make his full debut for the Whites, but Blackwell is confident that he can revive the form that saw the winger earn five Scotland Under-21 caps and make 46 appearances for his boyhood club Rangers.

“With Dominic going back to Leeds I was aware that we needed someone capable of opening teams up,” said Blackwell.

“We need someone to open up the door and Gregg’s an exciting player with some pace and decent quality, with the ability to put in a good cross.”

Wylde’s arrival will boost Bury’s bid to haul themselves out of the bottom four on Saturday with a win at home to in-form Cherries. However, they will be missing experienced trio Adam Lockwood, David Healy and Andy Bishop, who are all injury doubts.

Welcome to Gigg Lane Gregg i hope your stay with us will be a happy and successful one.

Perhaps if you do as well as Dom then the loan might be extended.

Another left sided player, dont leave Hewitt out to accomodate him Kevin.Doherty,Hopper & Hewitt should be automatic choices so if Wylde is in the side either Thompson or Ebanks-Landell should be the unlucky loan player, probably Thompson as we've more cover in his position.

Agreed nomore. If Hewitt and Hopper don't start i'll be well naffed b ut i can't see it really..
To be honest, i think Wylde will start on the bench, unless he brings back Sodje for E-L.

Shaken, even if Wylde is on the bench one of the other loan players will have to be left out as you're only allowed five in the match day squad.

Ah, cheers for that nomore.

I'm still not that impressed with Thompson and Soares wasn't that impressive imo either Saturday. If Wylde's allowed to play in the 2 cup games, get him in and let's see if he gives us the width and speed on the left we badly missed against Bournemouth.

I've seen Wylde play several times this season for the Wanderers and believe me he has a lot of skill and will enhance the Bury first team. He is still young but will be better than most players in this league.
