Bury 0 Tranmere 1
5:01pm Tuesday 1st January 2013 in Sport By Craig Nelson
BURY stretched their winless streak to 10 games following their second successive defeat, despite a valiant display at home to table-toppers Tranmere.
The visitors’ captain, Andy Robinson, sealed all three points for Ronnie Moore’s League One leaders with a well-placed shot from inside the Shakers' box in the 56th minute.
Robinson had fired a warning shot two minutes earlier with an effort against the post from exactly the same spot on the right of the Bury box.
The Tranmere skipper also had a penalty, harshly given for a foul by Tom Soares, expertly saved by Trevor Carson at the end of the first half, but the Merseysiders did not have it all their own way.
An attacking midfield three of David Worrall, Tom Soares and Gregg Wylde ran the show in the opening 45 minutes, causing the visitors all sorts of problems on the break.
But, other than a Tom Hopper header that went narrowly wide, they failed to create any real clear-cut chances.
Bury captain Steven Schumacher had the best effort saved by Owain Fon Williams with 20 minutes to play before the Shakers finally ran out of steam.
Despite the defeat, Bury remain third bottom, still just two points from safety.
