ATHLETES from Bury Athletic Club were in medal-winning form at the recent Greater Manchester Sportshall Championships at SportCity.
James Coghlan – Bury’s outstanding junior athlete during the indoor season – maintained his recent record at the county championships.
He took gold in the under-13s boys’ standing long jump, securing first place by just two centimetres with a jump of 2.20 metres.
James followed this up with bronze in the vertical jump, leaping 49cm above his height.
Bury’s other medalist was also in the u13 boys’ competition.
Declan Guy took bronze in the four-lap time trial, his time of 46.92secs only half a second off the winning time.
Guy also finished fifth in the standing triple jump, one place ahead of team-mate, Harry Slater.
Ellie Green showed excellent promise in the u15s girls’ competition. She finished fifth in both the two-lap final – coming home less than a second outside the medals – and the vertical jump.
Green then teamed up with Chelsey Lee, Cerys Tan and Charlotte Martin to finish sixth in the two-lap relay.
In the u11s boys’ events, Dan Matthews and Dylan Albanese competed strongly, just finishing outside the top six in their events.
Three members of the u11s girls’ team finished in the top six in their events.
Heledd Rimmer took fifth place in the javelin with a throw of 12m, Grace Goodsell finished sixth in the vertical jump with 40cm, only two centimetres short of winning a medal, and Daisy Worthington jumped 1.84m for sixth in the standing long jump.
Grace and Daisy then combined with Esme Guy and Josie Carroll for sixth in the two-lap relay.
