BASKETBALL: Blue Devils back to winning ways - Bury Bue Devils 63 Cardinal Landley II 42

THE Blue Devils bounced back from defeat in their previous outing with an impressive home win over the visitors from Rochdale.

Bury got off to a perfect start with a three-pointer from Charlie Cuthbert before they were forced to rely on some strong defence as their flow of points dried up.

But with the introduction of Nick Marshall, coach Mike Nichols and the super fast Kin Ming, the hosts scored eight consecutive points, extending their lead to finish the first quarter 16-9 up.

Both teams traded baskets in the second period, but Ajaz Wadood and Ang Morris both made important contributions for the home side.

Jay Knowles scored a three and Cuthbert hit the target from close range to give Bury a 31-23 lead at the half.

It was still anyone’s game and a low-scoring third quarter finished with a Conor Wilkinson hook shot which gave Bury an 11-point advantage.|

Nichols switched the team to five small but quick players and his tactic reaped rich reward. With the score at 53-42 in Blue Devils’ favour, Bury shored up their defence before finishing the match with an 8-0 run to maintain their lead at the top of Manchester Area Basketball League Division One.
