HOCKEY: Bury on course for Division Five title

BURY’S first team maintained their position at the top of Division Five North with two empahtic away wins over the weekend, beating Lytham 8-0 and Preston 5-0.
James Oakes led the way with five goals against Lytham and further goals from James Larmett, Alex Robinson and Luke Fidler completed Saturday’s rout.
Sunday’s rearranged game at Preston saw Bury record a third successive clean sheet. Fidler grabbed a hat-trick to take his tally to 29 for the season. Vice-captain Larmett and Oakes rounded off the scoring as Bury claimed another three points. Bury’s seconds returned to winning ways this weekend in Division Eight North firstly beating Didsbury 6-0. Two goals from Callum Lyall and Tony Sanderson along with strikes from Andy Robertson and Matt Kirk sealed the win.
This was followed by a 3-1 victory over Preston, which leaves them nine points clear at the summit of Division Eight North.
