4:27pm

67 - Craig Jones has the ball in the net, but is flagged for offside

4:27pm

65 - Bishop's looping header just clips the Coventry crossbar after the striker rose highest to get on the end of an Ajose cross from the left.

4:23pm

No surprise Regan has been hauled off. He was being given a real run-around by McSheffrey. Worrall is filling in at right-back now.

4:21pm

61 - SUB - Craig Jones on for Carl Regan

4:18pm

Bury are holding on here by the skin of their teeth. McSheffrey and Clarke just combined again on the right and very nearly snuck through before Schumacher brought McSheffrey down on the byline.

58 - Clarke headed the resulting free-kick over.

4:15pm

54 - Carson stands up well to a close-range McSheffrey shot, pulling off a fantastic block.

55 - He then bats away a Carke effort that looked to be looping into the Bury net.

4:12pm

51 - Ajose just fails to control a first-time ball into the box by Regan, nodding the bouncing ball towards goal but without the necessary pace to loop it over Murphy.

4:09pm

3:48pm

Bury 0 Coventry 1

3:47pm

45+1 – Ajose works himself a shooting chance on the edge of the box but Murphy gets down well to gather it.

3:45pm

43 - Tom Soares goes down expecting a penalty after flicking the ball into the box, but no dice from the referee.

44 - Andy Bishop looked to have missed a golden chance in the box after miscontrolling the ball with the goal at his mercy, but he eventually gets a shot off, only to see it bobble the wrong side of the post.

3:38pm

Schumacher and Eastham are now doubling up on Leon Clarke to some effect, at least from goal kicks, when the Bury captain is backing into the Coventry forward to stop him from jumping.

3:34pm

32 - Schumacher threads a first-time through ball from the right touchline that Ajose just fails to connect with before Murphy hoofs it clear.

3:24pm

23 - Steven Schumacher tries to find the top corner with a curling shot across goal that is easy for Murphy.

3:23pm

22 - Carl Baker hits the resulting free-kick straight at Carson, who gathers it at the second attempt.

3:22pm

21 - BOOKED - Joe Skarz is shown a yellow for a deliberate handball

3:21pm

20 - Worrall shoots an audacious attempt well wide after a Bury corner is worked out to kim 30-yards from goal.

3:13pm

12 - Worrall is coming into the game more now, recovering a hopeful ball down the left before clipping it over a defender and volleying it from a tight angle straight at Coventry keeper Joe Murphy.

Ajose followed that up with a skewed right-footed shot that sliced the wrong side of the post.

3:12pm

10 - Zac Thompson has Bury's first shot on goal, latching on the the loose ball and crashing it goalwards after good work from David Worrall, but his volley was always rising.

3:10pm

Bury certainly need to go for it now, but they can't get hold of the ball in midfield and the strong running of Elliott and Clarke up front is giving the defence real problems.

3:08pm

6 - Stephen Elliott also has joy down the left channel making an identical run into the box before firing a low shot against the post. James Bailey then curls the rebound towards the top corner but Joe Skarz gets back to head it off the line.

3:04pm

3 - Bury 0 COVENTRY 1 - Leon Clarke gets the wrong side of Ashley Eastham after a slip from the Bury centre-back and powers into the box before slotting under Trevor Carson

3:02pm

Bury have started 4-4-2, with Ajose and Bishop up front. Blackwell's got to go for it I suppose, with Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury picking up valuable wins of late.

3:01pm

Bury get the game underway...

2:59pm

#BuryFC fans can tweet me during matches @CraigNelsonBT and I will try to post as many of them as possible on the blog

2:56pm

Big game today atmosphere at Gigg today, with a healthy following from Coventry.

Not the 5,000+ crowd the Bury board will have hoped for, but certainly got a good buzz about the place.

Hopefully Bury can repeat the kind of performance that saw them power Doncaster Rovers aside recently, rather than their off-key display at home to Sheffield United on Tuesday.

2:38pm

Team news

Kevin Blackwell makes one change from the side that lost 2-0 at home to Sheffield United on Tuesday, with attacking midfielder David Worrall making his first start since recovering from a thigh strain.

He replaces Ethan Ebanks-Landell in the starting line-up, who drops to the bench.

Captain Steven Schumacher will presumably drop back into a holding role in midfield, with Worrall either playing just behind lone striker Andy Bishop, or out wide, with Nicky Ajose taking up a more central role.

One other option is that the Bury boss could be willing to revert to a straight 4-4-2 formation, allowing Ajose to join Bishop up front.

For the first time this year, Blackwell is able to name a full bench following the signing of 30-year-old former Bradford striker Craig Fagan, who has been named as a substitute.

There is no place, however, for 18-year-old Jonson Clarke-Harris, who joined on loan from Peterborough, yesterday, until the end of the season.

2:17pm

Full line-ups

BURY: Carson; Regan, Eastham, Zubar, Skarz; Schumacher, Thompson; Soares, Worrall, Ajose; Bishop.

COVENTRY: Murphy, Christie, Wood, Cameron, Dickinson; Baker, Bailey, Jennings, McSheffrey; Elliott, L Clarke.

A few statistics to put Blackwell's record into some sort of perspective. These are the records of every permanent Bury F.C. manager since the introduction of three points for a win in the 1980's.
NAME POINTS PER GAME
Alan Knill (149) 1.63
Sam Ellis (63) 1.60
Stan Ternent (133) 1.57
Jim Iley (167) 1.49
Mike Walsh (206) 1.44
Richie Barker (54) 1.38
Martin Dobson (233) 1.36
Andy Preece (187) 1.25
Graham Barrow (79) 1.15
Chris Casper (107) 1.12
Neil Warnock (65) 1.09
Kevin Blackwell (24) 1.00
The figure in brackets is the number of league games each manager was in charge for.
Here are the win percentages for the same managers.
Knill 44%
Ellis 44%
Ternent 42%
Iley 40%
Walsh 39%
Barker 38%
Dobson 36%
Preece 33%
Casper 28%
Barrow 26%
Warnock 23%
Blackwell 20%
Maybe it's time the board of directors started looking beyond Blackwell's self serving bluster and realised just how much damage this clown is inflicting on our club.

Nonmore...hard numbers, but the only number that really matters here is will we be 20th position at the end of the season, I say yes or slightly above.

And pray tell, who at this stage would take the helm?

We did not expect to beat the Blades nor Coventry, but I dare say we may indeed win at Notts County and still have teams around us to play. Self serving statement, Hope we take 3 points against "shifty" and his Crawley bunch.

Good research....

Good stats Nomoresurfin' and i totally agree with you.KB is most definitely our least most effective manager since the much maligned Jim Iley.Ok we are in a league where anyone can beat anyone.I for one would not want the board to extend KB's contract beyond the summer even in the unlikely event that he keeps us up.Word has it today that Notts County maybe looking to appoint him before Friday's game.Regan was at fault for the first goal, was he an extra in STAR WARS oh no that might have been RAYGUN.
This season just can't end soon enough.Cov & Blades were there for the taking when you consider their recent poor form.Yes 1 point a game isn't good enough although i appreciate the results in November would have flattered the much criticised Kevin Blackwell. His signings have once again proved worse than even Barker's.Go now please and take your rubbish number 2 with you to County.

And what exactly was Eatham doing for the 1st goal??? Both he and Thompson turned their back for the 2nd too.
Zubar was at fault last week for the blades 1st, Regan out of hopelessly out of position for the 2nd.

Honestly, can our defenders not defend???????????

Again, I ask the question...if he goes, who takes over?
Shirty? Good Grief.

Blackwell's goin nowhere.

Hypothetically speaking, if he was to leave i'd personally go for Knilly, but after all the abuse he got from some of our numbnut fans he'd probably say stuff you i hope you struggle....and tbh, who could blame him.

Wow, Alan Knill needs to stay away from Gigg full stop. Hopefully, we don't have short memories and when and how he left the club....

I say keep with KB....if we go down, it can certainly be 80% his fault, but let's not forget the first 10 games....and the bless "shifty" left us in when he high tailed it to Crawley.

Speak fo yourself easylife, the majority of thinking Bury fans,as opposed to the mindless morons who chanted obscenities about him and his family, would welcome Knill back with open arms. His work ethic totally changed the mentality of our club in the three years he was with us.We became a professional organisation ,on the pitch if not off it.Knill's departure, added to the loss of the only two directors with an iota of common sense,Messrs Harrop and Catlin led to the club reverting to the amateurish bumbling days of old.I doubt whether Brian Fenton is capable of running a bath, let alone a professional football club, and this is reflected in a series of disastrous managerial appointments.Barker should never have got the job full time,Lowe,Sodje & co got us over the line after Knilly's departure not Barker. When the shifty one jumped ship ,leaving Shirtliff in charge for so long and sanctioning the signing of the terminally idle Healy exarcebated the problem, and finally falling for Blackwell's self publicism when most league chairmen had been unwilling to touch him with a bargepole during a lengthy absence from the game was unfathomable.Approac
h Kniily about the job,if he turns us down flat as sadly I expect he would, ask Chris Brass who cares deeply about the club to work with Sodje and Futcher.

Nomoresurfin' are you talking about the same goon that scored that joke of an own goal against Darlo when we won 3-2 away at their place?.No way Jose he's one of the main reason that Sunny Scunny got in to their mess. Now look at how The Lawman has turned their season around. We should have gone for him not Billy Smart's best mate in the circus ring aks KB.AK is not an option really don't want to turn back the clock like the Fail have done.I said he sounded like a dodgy second hand car sales man when he took us over in late September and he still does.He talks the talk but his judgement on the acquisition of players is quite frankly pathetic aside from Doherty and Poleon

Nomore, I ALWAYS SPEAK FOR MYSELF...obviously this is a mute point as Knill went to Devon.

I still think we will stay up, and then maybe we should look at a Phil Brown or someone like that.

I think we will win at Notts...but then again, THAT IS MY OPINION.

Good Banter...

I wish I could share your optimism easylife, but to expect a team that has only managed to win 5 games out of 32 this season and 9 in the last 52 league games is as far as I can see a pipe dream.I wonder if Knill would have responded to a similar emergency call from us if the board had shown the guts to get rid of Blackwell?

After what he endured from some Bury "fans" 2 Boxing Days ago....i very much doubt it nomore.
I'm as broadminded as the next man, but what i heard that day (aimed at Alan Knill) was absolutely disgusting and i'm sure he won't have forgotten either!

I'll actually be amazed if we stay up this season, but if we do and for that achievement alone, i'd keep Blackwell on.

No way should this fraud be given another contract. He's as bad as T'old DH.Our win ratio in the past 52 games is nothing short of pathetic. There is a losing mentality at our club and the rot seems worse than when Alan Knill came in.He spoke of a stench of defeatism and negativity around the place.Well that stench of defeatism is back and worse than before.I would be more concerned about our prospects next season of staying in the football league. We are as bad if not worse than that Stockport County side which eventually went out of the league aside from perhaps not being as bad defensively.Look where they are now still struggling.Back to back defeats has got the alarm bells ringing at gigg lane.

Everybody is shouting for KB to go...but please look on the other side of the looking glass, who possibly would take this on right now?
I know most of you are not going to react to this statement...but a lot of blame goes to Ryan Lowe!! He left this club at the worse possible time, packed his bags for Sheffield, DID NOTHING, then off the MK..done hardy anything.

But then we have heard over the last year how much he loves the club and the fans. He was a PROVEN striker and left us in the mess...we are still in today. If he had stayed and stayed fit, who knows where we could be now. But his "love for Bury FC" took him elsewhere.

Lots of blame to go around....but the season is not over yet ( Eileen I know you wish it was :-)....

I still get behind the team, still believe we can stay up. If that is achieved, then we need to talk about replacing KB....till then, nothing better is on the horizon.
