BASKETBALL: Oldham Titans U16s 52 Bury Blue Devils U 16s 59

THE young Blue Devils continue to show rapid improvement with another win against a team they had previously lost to in the corresponding home fixture.

Oldham got a three-pointer score with their first attack, but Bury controlled the rest of the period coping with Oldham’s zone defence with Sam Nolan- Massey scoring with numerous long-range shots and Sulaiman Qadeer and Jack Hargreaves continually scoring off the rebounds. Bury led by 10, 23-13, but allowed their opponents a last- second score to give Oldham momentum for the start of the next period.

Bury struggled in the second period with Nolan-Massey only able to score two baskets for the team’s total in the period and allowed Oldham to get back within one point at half-time, 27-26. Bury regrouped in the third quarter and took control with Mukhtar Nasir sparking numerous fast-break attacks which he either converted or set up Massey, Hargreaves and Alen Ramic who added six points. In the fourth quarter, Bury extended their lead to 53-38 with Nasir adding eight consecutive points but then they tired and lost momentum and allowed Oldham 12 consecutive points to get back within three at 53-50 then a technical foul by Oldham allowed Bury some breathing space and Ramic closed the game out with six points.
