HOCKEY: Bury 1st 2 Ormskirk 2

BURY paid the price of failing to convert their chances, when they were held to a draw by the visitors from west Lancashire.

Bury took an early lead when Simon Major’s pass was powered home by James Oakes in the ninth minute.

The home side then missed a raft of scoring opportunities before Ormskirk converted two second-half short corners to take a 2-1 lead. More wasteful finishing from the hosts saw further chances come and go before Major grabbed an equaliser five minutes from time.

The first team now have to win all their remaining games in order to be crowned champions of North West Hockey League’s Division Five North.

Meanwhile, the Bury 2nds all but confirmed their Division Eight North title with a 2-1 win at Golborne.

Goals form Tony Sanderson and Dave Fox, moved the second team to within touching distance of glory.
