Unbeaten Broncos fourth in league

RUGBY league side Bury Broncos are fourth in the North West Division Four after the first two matches of the season.

Their home 28-28 draw with Ashton Bears was followed by Saturday’s 42-18 defeat of Westhoughton Lions at Philips High School in what proved to be a dominant performance.

They ran in eight tries to tame the Lions with centres Liam Owen and Rick Brogan each claiming a brace while Blake Roberts, Ryan Latham, Andy Carter and Chris Radford also crossed the whitewash to seal to acomfortable win for the hosts.

The victory was in stark contrast to the Broncos previous outing in which they had to recover from a poor start to share the spoils with Ashton in their season-opening clash.

They came from 12-0 down with first-half tries from Mark Brocklehurst, Andy Partington and Roberts, who also added four points with the boot, to hold a 16-12 half-time lead.

Despirte further scond-half scores from Mark Jones. Brogan, a late try from Ashton tied the scores in a similar fashion to last season’s 38-38 draw between the two teams.
