Youngsters bow out in last eight of senior ABAs

BURY ABC coach Mick Jelley has tipped his young boxers to bounce back after two won regional senior ABA titles but got knocked out of the national competition in the quarter-finals.

Osman Aslam, aged 19, lost on points to Burmantofs ABC fighter Jack Bateson in the 48-51k division, while 20-year-old Louis Allison was stopped in the 60-63k quarters by Platinum ABC’s Darren Tetley.

“They lost against much more experienced fighters,” said Jelley. “Winning Greater Manchester titles is a big achievement and they will learn from this.”

Another one of his fighters, Brian Rennie, aged 29, lost in the finals of the regional competition.
