BURY Broncos have won their first trophy since their formation in 2008, beating Rochdale Cobras 20-0.
The Philips High School-based side beat the Rochdale and District Riley Cup holders for the last three years in a final switched to the Cobras’ ground with the Kingsway Sports Centre pitch waterlogged.
Bury overcame the absence of influential club captain Mark Brocklehurst and Bury, Bolton and Rochdale’s young player of the year, Blake Roberts.
Highlights of the win were a try from prop Chris Lynch and a hat-trick from centre Richard West, in addition to two conversions from Christopher Ready.
