FORMER Bury triallist Euan Holden may have been given his release papers last week, but, with the arrival of new owners, the American utility player is eager to make an immediate return to Gigg Lane.

The brother of Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stuart Holden was handed his debut in the Shakers’ final game of last season, giving a good account of himself in a surprise central role in the 3-2 victory over Yeovil.

After spending three months training at the club on non-contract terms, the 24-year-old was left in limbo, waiting on the outcome of negotiations with potential investors.

But the former Stockport player said he would love to discuss a possible deal now that Bury’s financial situation has been turned around.

“We’ll take the summer to see what happens and keep in touch,” he said.

“I’m not sure (if I’ve got a chance here). I hope so. I enjoyed my time here and we’ll just see what happens.”

With players returning for pre-season training on June 20, manager Kevin Blackwell has little time to rebuild his depleted squad and will more than likely repay the faith of the players who stuck by him in darker times last campaign.

Blackwell will also need to replace captain Steven Schumacher, and while Holden is not the same sort of player as the skilful central midfielder, he showed against Yeovil that he is equally comfortable playing in the middle as he is at full-back, where he played most of his games at Stockport.

“I actually really enjoy it there (in centre midfield),” he said.

“I played there a lot growing up but over the last couple of years I’ve been moved around into a lot of different positions, but I felt comfortable slotting in there.

“The gaffer has done a lot of work with me on my fitness and positional play to make sure that I’ve got up to speed.

“And I’m just thankful that he gave me the chance and brought me in.

“I had two unfortunate niggling little injuries that sort of kept me back, and when I was fit I got injured again.

“So the Yeovil game was actually the first match I was available for and back fit, so I was just happy to go out there and show what I’ve got.”
