Broncos 102 Mancunians 12
2:00pm Thursday 15th August 2013 in Sport
BURY Broncos registered a club-record win in Saturday’s North West Men’s League Division Four clash, scoring 19 tries in the process.
The visitors arrived at Philips High School in Whitefield with high hopes of recording their third win of the season in a derby upset.
But, aside from two tries in quick succession from Nick McCartan and Stephen Budworth midway through the first half, they offered little resistance as the Broncos looked for some end-of-season form to take into the play-offs.
By the time Mancunians scored 25 minutes in however, Bury already had 30 points on the board with tries from Warren Bluer, Sam Fairhurst, Neil Shackcloth, Anthony Crumlish, Ryan Latham and Blake Roberts.
Mark Jones added another score, before Crumlish and Latham bagged their second to leave the score 48-12 at the interval.
Any hopes of a second-half rally were ended straight from the restart as Roberts jumped well to gather the ball and score, and from there on in Bury did not let their foot off the pedal. Crumlish added a second-half hat-trick to finish with five tries, with Roberts and Latham also finishing with three each.
Ben Jenks added one and Chris Radford scored two, including the one which clinched the three-figure score before the referee blew for full time 15 minutes early.
Broncos head to Westhoughton Lions on Saturday.
