BILLIARDS: Champions Bury go down to Totty
BURY Billiards League champions Bury got the new campaign off to a poor start with defeat to Tottington Conservative Club.
Other winners were Queensway Snooker Club, Normans Snooker Club, Walshaw Con B, Walmersley Conservative B and Seedfield Bowling Club, but there was no complete whitewash, with all matches ending 4-1. Bury Snooker Club struggled against Totty as David Nicholson gave the visitors the early lead.
Although Dale Jones won the second, Phil Spring won the last for the visitors.
At Walshaw, Walmersley Conservative Club A were the visitors, with two new signings Paul Hulme and Graham Brennan.
Hulme played Alan Rossbottom, who has returned to the league after several years, and the visitor just edged the contest by the narrowest possible margin.
Dave Samuels laid down an early marker for the highest-break prize with a break of 63 in the second and ran out an easy winner over the other debutant.
Ian Street won the final game by defeating Peter Stanyer. The only other break on the night came from Phil Deakin with a run of 37 in his game against Chris Kinsella at Elton Liberal Club.
