Pendle 12 Bury 34
3:00pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in Sport
BURY got off to a strong start and dominated newly-formed Pendle from the opening stages.
Scrum half Dan Palmeiri opened the scoring for the visitors with an opportunist try, weaving his way over after picking the ball up from a scrum 15 metres out.
Captain Jon Allen launched the next scoring move, splitting the Pendle defence with a 50-metre run before the ball was passed out to wing Dan Scanlan to put down in the corner.
And while Pendle replied with a try on 28 minutes, Bury rounded off the half with a second Scanlan try four minutes before the break.
Scanlan completed his hat-trick 15 minutes into the second half. Bury took a scrum against the head and moved the ball swiftly crossfield up the slope, and the winger outstripped the cover to score in the right corner.
Pendle came back yet again with a drive over the line, but utility forward Chris Potts carried over for the visitors in almost identical fashion, grounding after a determined drive.
Bury rounded off the scoring with five minutes remaining, taking the ball from the ruck and moving it crossfield before centre Mark Campbell offloaded to full back Dan Jones, who covered some 30 metres to score adjacent to the posts.
Bury entertain Clitheroe on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
