Bury 22 Clitheroe 25
3:00pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in Sport
LATE indiscipline cost Bury dear as they let a first-half lead slip at home to Clitheroe in North Lancs Two.
The visitors burst out of the blocks with an unconverted try in the sixth minute.
But Bury restored parity immediately from the restart when centre Leo Freschini worked a clever inside pass to left wing Ben Shedwick, who outstripped the cover to score from 60 metres out.
The home side, who missed the conversion, were soon behind again when Clitheroe kicked a penalty.
But, after Bury captain Jon Allen won back the ball from the kick off, he fed Chris Potts for another unconverted try.
After a period of messy rugby, Bury pressure paid off, with Shedwick charging down a kick and stand-off Matt Hindley touching down for a try, which he converted himself.
Bury took a nine-point lead into the interval but injuries and ill-discipline cost them dear in the second half.
Clitheroe crashed over 10 minutes after the break and, as Bury lost their heads, they took advantage to score two further tries.
Dan Scanlon outstripped the opposition to score in the corner in the dying minutes but it was not converted and proved to be a consolation.
The next match will be on October 26 when Bury visit the Didsbury home of Old Bedians, kick off 3pm.
