HOCKEY: Bury make Stockport pay for mistakes
9:00am Friday 29th November 2013 in Sport
A strong start from Bury saw Ergoli Togo and Phil Stainton score easy baskets. Jason Knowles controlled the ball well as Bart Szareko scored inside, with powerful moves helping Bury to a 21 to 14 lead after a quarter.
The inside presence of Stu Jackson helped Bury push the lead with good outside shooting from Kin Ming Ling and Charlie Cuthbert. While great defence by youngster Paolo Rufflo stifled Stockport into mistakes.
Bury moved the ball well, involving every player on court and held a 28 to 43 half time lead.
A quick eight to two run extended the lead with Knowles pressuring his man, causing an eight second violation. Bury regained possession, with Szerako and Ling the beneficiaries. Defensively Bury faltered slightly, allowing offensive rebounds. However their offense ensured they held a lead going into the final quarter 44 to 60.
Stockport have traditionally made comebacks but Togo attacked inside with a deadly jumpshot before Stockport found some life. Bury countered with threes from Cuthbert.
Good ball movement and steady heads helped Bury to a 55 to 76 point win.
