In another record-breaking win, Sedgley Tigers took their points tally to more than 200 in their last two home fixtures with a 111-15 victory over bottom side Dudley Kingswinford on Saturday.

Since losing to third-placed Stourbridge in early October, the Tigers have won seven in a row in National League Two North and are in good shape heading into the festive period.

Tigers’ manager Geoff Roberts said: “When you looked at the league table six weeks ago we were playing teams in the bottom half of the table, while in the beginning we were playing teams at the top. “We’re entering that scenario again now.

“We expect a fairly tough encounter next week at Birmingham because they’ve put some good performances in. They beat Macclesfield a couple of weeks ago – so we expect a tough game.

“That tough match is followed by Preston at home, which is our local derby, so they are always tough.

“When we launch into next year we’ve really got to be at the top of our game with Sheffield away and then Macclesfield away on the trot. “Then we have Chester at home, so we’ve really got to start focusing on it.

“It’ll be interesting to see where it goes. I do feel we are in quite a nice position – looking forward waiting for someone to slip up, rather than looking behind my shoulder all the time.”

In a clinical performance against Dudley, the impressive Tigers ran in 17 tries during an exhibition of hard fast rugby.

Geoff said: “When you nail bite every week you think it would be nice just to be comfortable, but when you get wins like that I sometimes think it would be nice to have a nail biter as it makes you feel you’ve achieved something more.

“You hear people saying it gets boring when it gets to that high of a score, and it’s true.

“It seems in the end that you’re scoring every time you get the ball. A closer match is much more exciting.

“At the end of the day it needs to be a competition. “That’s what makes sport interesting that potentially one of you are going to lose. If it’s just a foregone conclusion it wouldn’t hold any interest anymore.

“It was very difficult to pick a stand out player. We had the luxury of keeping one or two guys out yesterday.

“We didn’t play Callum McShane at scrum half, we didn’t play James Lloyd in the second row and we didn’t put Juan Crous on, so we had a chance to give some of the guys a bit of a rest, which should help for next week.”

The Tigers took the lead in the seventh minute with Chris Parrott going over for an unconverted try. Johnny Matthews added the hosts second try on 12 minutes, which was converted by Steve Collins.

The Tigers stretched their lead to 26-0 with Andrew Riley and Chris Wilkinson both scoring tries and Collins again adding the conversions, before Dudley scored their first try through Samuel Pedley.

Riley and Lamprey added further tries with Collins converting one to give the Tigers a 38-5 lead at half time.

There was no let up for the visitors in the second half as a Riley hat-trick and Collins’ conversions extended the home sides lead, before a rare Dudley attack saw Daniel Hawkins go over for an unconverted try to take the score to 52-10.

In a one-sided final 35 minutes the Tigers notched up a further nine tries with Lamprey going over four times and braces apiece from Riley and Wilkinson, with Robert Holloway all adding to the score. Collins added all the conversions to take the score to 111-10.

Dudley had the final say of the afternoon with a try in the closing minutes from Ryan Smitherman.

On Saturday, Sedgley Park are away to sixth-placed Birmingham Solihull, kick off 3pm.
