A keen darts player from Tottington is celebrating after winning the Italian Grand Masters tournament.

Martin Barratt, who plays for various clubs in the Bury area including Breightmet Conservative Club in the Astley Bridge Darts League and Bury in the Lancashire Super League, walked away with the trophy and £600 prize money after beating Italy’s national captain, Luca Catallo, in the final.

The 36-year-old, who has previously lived in Radcliffe and Bury, travelled to Italy to take part in the open-style knockout competition with friends John Tutti, Steve Plummer and Scott Hayward.

Martin, who is sponsored by Steel Stockholder Vanleeuwen, has played darts for more than 20 years and also took part in last year’s competition.

He said: “I went over last year and got to the last eight, and then this year I won it.

“The contest is a ranked tournament and I'm currently 98th in the world now.

“I’m doing well locally too. We are top in the Astley Bridge League and around mid-table in the Lancashire League,” said Martin.
