DANNY Nardiello capped a thrilling comeback with a 95th-minute equaliser to earn David Flitcroft’s side a vital point in their fight against relegation.

The on-loan striker put through keeper Sam Slocombe’s legs after being sent clear by Andy Procter to cue wild celebrations at the JD Stadium.

That followed a second Chris Sedgwick goal in as many games, which gave the Shakers hope after a double from Sam Winnall had put the Iron 2-0 up.

The Iron striker perhaps gave Bury cause for belief after getting himself a second yellow card for over celebrating his second goal in the 66th minute.

The late drama was in stark contrast to the game’s opening stages as both sides took their time to get going in a sluggish first half.

While Bury pressed and probed, it was the Iron who created the more clear-cut chances.

The first came off the boot of winger Terry Hawkridge in the 24th-minute, who was allowed time to drift inside before seeing his left-footed shot tipped on to the post by Shakers stopper Brian Jensen.

At the other end, Bury wide man Danny Mayor flattered to deceive with a number of mazy runs without producing a testing shot or incisive final ball.

When the Shakers did manage to open up the Iron, left-back Eddie Nolan was on hand to deny them, flicking a low Nardiello cross behind with Sedgwick waiting to pounce at the back post.

Sedgwick was guilty of fluffing his lines when a Mayor cross did fall into his path, getting underneath his shot.

And the visitors punished his profligacy, catching Bury on the counter attack in the 38th-minute.

Deon Burton drifted into their left channel, vacated by full-back Dean Howell following a dashing raid, and the Scunthorpe striker put in Hawkridge, whose centre was dispatched from six yards by Winnall.

The Iron doubled their advantage in almost identical fashion after the break.

This time Dave Syers provided the low cross from Bury’s right flank, which Winnall poked out a foot to guide past the reach of Jensen.

Winnall, who had only moments earlier been booked for diving in the box, was aghast after referee Geoff Eltringham judged his celebrations with the away fans were worth a second yellow.

But Bury made full use of their man advantage, with Sedgwick firing home his second goal in as many games 16 minutes from time.

The midfielder rifled the ball back across goal and into the bottom corner after substitute Ashley Grimes's curling effort was palmed away by Slocombe.

It looked as if Flitcroft’s men would go down to their second defeat in as many games, however, as the Iron held out, only for Nardiello to pop up with a late, late show.

Bury remain in the bottom two, but go into Sunday’s crucial relegation battle at home to fellow strugglers York just one point behind their Yorkshire rivals.
