Bury boss David Flitcroft confirms contract talks with Rotherham United striker Daniel Nardiello
DAVID Flitcroft confirmed Bury were in talks with Daniel Nardiello over a permanent move to the JD Stadium following the on-loan striker's last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 home draw with Scunthorpe United yesterday.
The Rotherham United marksman capped a fantastic comeback for the Shakers, cooly slotting home the leveller in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Chris Sedgwick had given them hope with a fine 74th-minute strike.
Buoyed by Nardiello’s calm finish, slotting through the legs of Scunthorpe keeper Sam Slocombe, Flitcroft revealed he was in advanced negotiations to tie up the 31-year-old on a long-term contract.
“Daniel Nardiello is a David Flitcroft-type player and certainly the kind of player I am trying to bring to the club,” said the Bury boss.
“If you can play through Daniel Nardiello and get him slid into the box with passes like that then there are a lot of goals in him.
“That’s the plan. I want to work with Danny – he knows that.”
Nardiello, who is due to return to the Millers after Bury's New Year's Day trip to Hartlepool, said he was open to a permanent move but was yet to reach an agreement with the JD outfit.
