Brooksbottom win annual Boxing Day fixture
10:00am Thursday 2nd January 2014 in Sport
Brooksbottom took the spoils at home to Tottington St John’s in the 51st annual Boxing Day cricket match.
The Summerseat club won a tight game by two wickets after reaching 110-8 in reply to the visitors’ 107-8 from their 20 overs.
Tottington skipper Simon Marsh won the toss and elected to bat in the 12 v 12 game – a decision that soon backfired as they found themselves with five wickets down for just 11 runs.
Brox president Mark Richardson was the architect of their downfall with 4-3 off his allotted two overs, while Marsh was the standout batsman, hitting 43 not out.
Paul Hopton got the Brooksbottom innings off to a good start, scoring 31, before Nick Marsh ripped through the middle order, taking 3-1. But his effort could not tip the balance as Brox made it past the Tottington total with two overs to spare.
