A talented group of dynamic young fencers from Salle Kiss Fencing Club in Bury are celebrating after a successful 2013.

Amy Home and Phoebe Newton-Hughes were awarded the bronze medal at the under-13 Leon Paul Junior Series Competition in Wrexham in December.

Olivia Ngo won the u9 girls, Dominic Kiss won bronze for the u9 boys and Alex Jones received gold for the u15 boys.

Earlier in the year, Amy, Phoebe and Rachel Jones took part in the u13 mixed team foil competition at Much Wenlock Olympian Games.

Twelve teams entered the competition and the young Salle Kiss girls went into the final against an all boy team.

Despite being smaller and younger, the girls fenced well and finished the match two points ahead of the boys, taking first place with gold medals and chocolates to celebrate their win.

The trio are aiming to return to the event this year to defend their title. Phoebe also brought the bronze medal back from the British Youth Championship and Rachel and Phoebe took third at last year’s English Youth Championships.
