MATCH OFF UPDATE: Mansfield Town v Bury postponed

BURY'S League Two match at Mansfield Town tonight has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The club invited local referee David Plowright to conduct a precautionary pitch inspection at 11am this morning following heavy overnight, which left standing water in areas of the pitch.

A statement on Mansfield Town's website said Plowright deemed the surface "unfit for use".

Groundsman Michael Merriman said: "Due to the torrential rain we had on Saturday, the pitch is absolutely wet through.

"The continued rain both overnight and this morning, along with the forecast that is predicting further heavy rain for the rest of the day, means that there was no chance this game could take place due to there being so much standing water."

A new date for the fixture is yet to be arranged.

I think our club is cursed and we are doomed to be relegated. We were the only match to be postponed last Saturday and tonight i'm guessing the same.

The players will be lacking in match fitness which is my main concern so perhaps a game could be arranged behing closed doors for members of the squad.

I guess we were unlucky with the fixtures where we were due to play clubs who haven't got the best pitches in this league.

Oh well onwards and upwards up next is our bogey side Wycombe Wanderers who have a nasty knack of winning at Gigg Lane.

Don't worry about the Wycombe game Eileen, as we're one of those clubs that haven't got one of the best pitches in our league.....so it'll be off too.

Quite a useful postponement for The Stags given the fact that they can't or won't be able to bring in any new players in the January Window.I'm guessing that the local referee who decided that the pitch wasn't fit for purpose was making the decision from a neutral perspective.

Yes our pitch isn't one of the better ones in league 2 and i doubt whether it would have been able to stage a game tonight also.

Matches are postponed every season, mostly because of snow and ice. So this season it is rain.
The weather has no opinion as to teams and fans.
I would rather have these games played under normal weather conditions and have the opportunity to win points rather than drop points because of a puddle, a mistake and a goal.

Two home games coming up and I have every confidence that the players will be raring to go. Last time I checked, we beat Wycombe this season.

Quite a few games are off today and that's the way it is....

Surely it would suit David to play his style of game on a pitch that is playable rather than a mud heap where anything could happen, stupid mistakes, unable to have sharp passing or pace.i think we have already seen that in the home Torquay game,so for me im glad we can wait to play the games another day.I see we ave had the usual negative comment from a certain quarter.
