Following a successful 2013, two youngsters from Bury Gymnastics Club have been selected to represent Great Britain.

Lazarus Benjamin and Finlay Dunne were invited to Lilleshall National Sports Centre last month to take part in four days of intensive training.

The duo, who are rated the two top level one juniors in Great Britain, attended the centre where top gymnasts such as Daniel Purvis, Kristian Thomas, Frank Baines train – and impressed the coaches so much that they were picked for the TeamGB squad.

Lazarus, who lives in Chorlton, and Finlay, from Salford, received their selection confirmation on January 24.

“They were so happy,” said Finlay’s mum, Toni.

“For Bury to get two boys into the GB squad in the same year is brilliant.”

Ten-year-old Lazarus and nine-year-old Finlay are currently on another four-day training camp and will attend further camps throughout the year.

“They are two very talented hard working boys who love what they do,” said Toni. “And now all their hard work has paid off with TeamGB selection.”

Last year, the duo finished in first and second place at the National Elite Grades in Birmingham, with Lazarus narrowly beating Finlay to the gold medal. The youngsters were part of the North West team that won gold, and they also came first and second in the London Open – with Finlay beating Lazarus on that occasion.
