SATURDAY’S match at Wimbledon could be Frederic Veseli’s last for Bury, but the Ipswich defender admits he would love to extend his loan stay.

The 21-year-old defender’s current deal at the JD Stadium runs out at the weekend, although the former Manchester United trainee is hopeful something can be sorted out after slotting in well during his six matches for the Shakers.

“I have not spoken to Ipswich yet, so I need to speak to the manager (Mick McCarthy) between now and Saturday to see what he wants me to do,” said the Swiss full-back.

“Obviously I want to speak with the gaffer here because he has got a say as well on whether he wants to keep me or not.

“But I would like to stay if everything will be all right.”

That may not be a formality, however, as Bury boss David Flitcroft signed left-sided defender Jake Carroll from Huddersfield Town yesterday.

But after failing to get a game during spells at Manchester City and then Manchester United, and a hamstring injury curtailing his development with the Tractor Boys to just one start, Veseli is now eager to get more first-team matches under his belt.

“Not only am I enjoying my time with the players and the staff, but I also think I am learning a lot about a different side of the game I wasn’t used to before,” he said.

“It’s good when you have got the confidence of your team-mates and obviously the manager.

“You learn new things and take them into the game and see they can work.

“So, overall, it’s a good situation for me right now because I feel like I am learning and enjoying myself as well.”

Bury fans should not get too excited about a possible longer-term deal for the youngster, however.

“It’s about getting the experience and then getting back to Ipswich and higher, to be fair, because I already dropped from Manchester United to Ipswich thinking I would get some games.

“So for me, coming to Bury has been about getting some games and also getting my confidence back after my injury, which was quite bad.”
