It has been another successful week at Bury Amateur Boxing Club with two youngsters taking on boxers from the army and navy in the annual Help The Heroes fundraiser.
Muhammad Harris won unanimously on points over C McLaughlin of Bridgwater ABC in the semi-final of his schoolboys contest, while Ali Zahid won his middle-weight fight against H Steadman from the army on a split decision.
There was some sad news for the club this week with the news that founder, Brian Jelley, brother of coach Mick, died aged 82 on Friday. Brian was a professional boxer who represented Great Britain and won numerous schoolboy titles. He was the youngest boxer to be picked for England but missed the Olympic Games in 1948 because he was too young to compete.
