The first team were missing seven regular players as they took on an undefeated champions Blackburn on Saturday.

Youngster Siraj Raza made his first team debut in the final game of the season in Division Four North.

In what proved to be somewhat of an upset, Bury came away with all three points.

James Oakes fired in a first-time reverse stick strike to notch his 50th goal of the season – a club and league record – in the third minute to give Bury the lead.

Midfielder James Larmett who, having been bundled over when clean through, picked himself up and converted the resultant penalty stroke to double Bury’s lead.

Blackburn finally came into the game, creating two good chances, but found Jonathan Howard in inspired form in the Bury goal.

With 20 minutes gone, another quick Bury break saw David Hodbod receive a defence splitting pass and smash home his 10th goal of the season.

Moments before half time Blackburn got themselves on the scoresheet.

Bury sliced through the home team’s defence early in the second half and Oakes once again hammered the ball past the exposed Blackburn keeper.

Blackburn gave the visitors a scare by scoring two quick short corner goals, to bring the score to 4-3. Hodbod completed his hat-trick before Blackburn grabbed a fourth.

Bury had the final word as Simon Major turned in a short corner with the last touch of the game.
