Following on from the success of the senior team in the same tournament, Walshaw Sports Club Cricket Under-11s recently won the Greater Manchester Indoor Cricket League and cup – going unbeaten in all games.

The tournament, which was held over three Sundays at the Football Factory in Rochdale, was played on indoor cricket mats.

Each team consisted of six players, with each person bowling an over. The league was in pairs format, whereas the cup was a last man stands game. The Walshaw players were all part of last year’s team that won the Bolton and District Cricket Association league and cup for their age group.

All the boys contributed with bat and ball and were complimented on their fielding by many of the other team managers and parents.

Manager, Stephen Rhodes, said: “I was very proud of the team. We do train at winter nets but the tournament allowed the boys to get back into competitive cricket ready for the new season, which starts at the end of April.”

Walshaw Cricket Club, which is based on Sycamore Road, has one of the most successful junior sections in the area with teams competing at u9s, u11s, u13s, u15s and u18s.

There is also a future stars section which is open to children aged four who want to learn the basics.

The junior section at the club has produced players that now make up the three senior teams plus representative cricket for the town and county.
