Bury made the long trek to Northumbria on Sunday, and with a full team were looking to open their away match account.

With the new Cramlington track looking brilliant, Chris Parish took race one, and a great pass by Scranage with Elston supporting saw Bury lead by four points after two races.

Some tight team racing from both sides saw no further advantage over the next six races with both Owens and Renc winning races for Bury.

In race nine, the home side hit back by six points to three, as Howarth received an unfortunate exclusion, but Bury still led by a point, 45-44. Elston and Howarth combined for maximum points after the interval while home stars Parr and Keith took the next two races.

Bury increased their lead to nine points after great work from Parish and Danny Taylor with another seven-pointer over the unbeaten Gavin Parr. Northumbria managed two further six-pointers in the last three races but Bury were always in control and secured a deserving 93-86 victory. The opening round of the Manchester League at Astley, featured some top class racing amongst some of the North West’s best young riders. Adam Turnbull, Tom Whitwam and Max Snell all contested the under-13s event with Whitwam taking the first honors as Turnbull slipped when in the lead.

Snell won his next races including a win over Louis Turner. A good recovery from Adam as he won his race to still feature, while Whitwam took his third win to lead.

Race 11 featured all three riders with Turnbull leading from the start. Snell passed Whitwam on lap two and all three finished on 14 points.

In the senior event, Ben Scranage took a fine 14 points, while Will Thacker kept trying for all four laps.
