TRAINER Joe Gallagher hailed Scott Quigg’s latest victory on what was a night of personal pride for the man based at Amir Khan’s Gloves Gym in Bolton.

Quigg, Anthony Crolla, Callum Smith and Hosea Burton made it four wins from four on the bill at Manchester’s Phones 4u Arena on Saturday.

And Gallagher’s star man Quigg led the way with a two-round demolition of South African Tshifhiwa Munyai, knocking the late replacement opponent down twice before the stoppage five minutes into his WBA world super bantamweight title defence.

Gallagher said: “To have a great Manchester fighter like Scot Quigg and Anthony Crolla on at the Phones 4u Arena is a dream for me.

“We also had Hosea Burton from Manchester and one of the bright up and coming boxers in Callum Smith.

“It was a fantastic feeling to have all four of my fighters win – it was a highlight of my career as a coach.

“They are all nice kids. You won’t see any of my fighters falling out of bars and restaurants.

“Scott Quigg is a brilliant role model for any aspiring young amateur boxer or young professional.

“He shows how to live your life and work hard with dedication. “This kid needs to be put on a pedestal – he is the fittest kid in British boxing and I cannot say enough good words about him. “We should be celebrating his success and dedication.

“Crolla also shows good guys do finish first sometimes. “He is due his world title shot now.

“I am very pleased with my lads.”

Gallagher was a proud Mancunian on home turf and believes 25-year-old Quigg has the potential to fill the city’s Arena on a regular basis like Ricky Hatton once did.

He added: “We haven’t got many world champions. “With Scott and Anthony Crolla on Saturday it was electric at the Arena.

“It was like Manchester was reborn again like the Ricky Hatton days.

“In 18 months that will be packed. Like when Hatton fought Kostya Tszyu – Quigg will have that defining fight sold out in Manchester.”
