UP and coming cycling superstar Adam Yates rode to his first tour victory as a professional in the Tour Of Turkey.

The 21-year-old Bury cyclist, stormed into the lead on the mountainous sixth stage of the eight-stage race. Yates, an honorary Bury Clarion member, kept his advantage to ride into Istanbul victorious alongside sprinter Mark Cavendish, who won the stage.

His win makes Yates the first British winner of the event. The Orica-GreenEdge rider, twin brother of 2013 world points race champion Simon, started the last day of racing with a one-second lead over Estonia’s Rein Taaramae.

Despite Taaramae wiping that out in the closing stages, the Cofidis rider slipped back and lost time on Yates as the Bury cyclist was crowned the champion.
