Bury schoolboy Luke Bartram was victorious at the Kenilworth Junior Masters and secured himself a very special opportunity.

Held in Warwickshire, the event saw 48 boys and girls aged under 13 compete, supported by the Golf Society of Great Britain.

Thirteen-year-old Luke won the John Butler Trophy, awarded to the lowest gross score, and this year’s added incentive meant the winner received an invitation to take part in the exclusive Ian Poulter Junior Invitational at Woburn Golf Club in July.

Bartram, from Rossendale Golf Club and playing off a handicap of eight, was tied for the lead at three over par as he approached the 18th tee with Gog Magog Golf Club’s Dominic Clemons.

Luke’s tee shot finished around six feet from the hole and with his opponent bogeying the hole, all the Ramsbottom youngster required was two putts to secure the title.

In fact, the year nine pupil at Haslingden High School only needed one, his excellent birdie attempt finding the middle of the hole and meaning a two over par gross score of 73 to secure his success.

Mum Jayne was immensely proud of her son, saying: “It’s fantastic, the opportunity to go to something as good as the invitational is exciting.

“He’s won a few other tournaments as well, so he’s on top form at the moment and I’m proud of everything he’s doing.”
