Unsworth cruised through to the second round of the Wood Cup with a seven-wicket home victory over Central Lancashire League rivals Crompton on Sunday.
Set with a target of 234, the hosts chalked off the runs with overseas amateur Jeff Keyt, from Melbourne, hitting 107 not out and the club’s captain and professional Chris Williams also hitting a half century as his side totalled 237-3.
Vice captain Chris Long said: “We were absolutely brilliant.
“They set quite a sizeable total to what we are used to in the league but fortunately Keyt managed to get a brilliant 100 and we brought it home with plenty to spare.”
Liam Richards was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts taking four wickets in his 10 overs. Long added: “If Richards hadn’t turned up they may have been looking at 280 or 300 runs so he definitely deserves a mention.”
Unsworth will now play league leaders Milnrow in the second round after they knocked out Premier Division side Rochdale.
