After three consecutive away defeats in the league, Bury Seniors got back in the groove with a convincing 13-1 victory over Knott End in their opening home Lancashire County Red Rose League fixture on Thursday.

Returning captain Steve Bracegirdle and Jimmy Hardman saw off the challenge of D Forester and B Hill on the last green to give Bury a great start.

John Latham and Trevor Chapman beat T Molloy and G Parker by 4&3, before Ted Foster and Dave Johnson edged another nailbiting last green finish to give the home side a 3-0 lead. Two 4&3 wins from Ged Eckersley and Eddie Spencer, and Paul Wilkinson and Brian Simper, took Bury’s advantage to 5-0.

Jimmy Pilkington and Dennis Taylor saw dormie two change to all square when Dave Settle sunk a birdie putt on the final green to ensure a point for Knott End. Alan Green and Dave Kerry closed out the match with a 2&1 win over J Evans and I Holmes.

Earlier in the week, Bury travelled to Accrington for their annual challenge match in East Lancashire. Captain Bracegirdle and Hardman gave the visitors the lead with a 2&1. Vice captain John Latham and Steve Kennedy followed up with a 3&2 win while Ted Foster and Trevor Grimshaw won 2&1 to make it 3-0 to Bury. But Accrington hit back with a vengeance taking the next five games to edge an exciting match 5-3.
