Bury Grammar School sixth form student Gus Greensmith steered his way to victory in his first British Rally Championship earlier this month.

The debutant drove his Major Motorsport prepared Ford Fiesta R1 in the BRC3 class at the Pirelli Rally in Carlisle to become the second youngest driver in BRC’s 58-year history.

Greensmith and co-driver Carl Williamson dominated the class and by the end of the first day were leading by more than three minutes, and lying in 11th place overall. The duo extended their lead to more than five minutes by the end of day two.

Greensmith scored maximum points to lead the Junior British Rally Championship as well as the BRC3 class.

With the BRC3 class entirely populated by newcomers, Greensmith and Williamson won in style.
