Unsworth secured back-to-back victories at the weekend despite a tough double header against second and third in the Lancashire League.

Wins over Crompton on Saturday and a dramatic one-wicket success with an over to spare against Milnrow on Sunday gave the Dragons maximum points.

Jack O’Brien bowled three wickets in an opening spell before Liam Richards dismissed Crompton’s middle order with four wickets for just 28 runs. Only Crompton’s pro pushed on to make a good score. Chris Williams picked up three further wickets to restrict the opposition to 124 all out.

In reply, Unsworth lost just three wickets to win with 12 overs to spare. Jeff Keyt scored 34 and Chris Long 20 to set the Dragons on their way, with Williams and Abid Fazil making not out scores of 25 and 21.

On Sunday, the Dragons visited Milnrow, Williams and O’Brien again bowling with discipline.

Williams finished the innings with 4-39, helped by Richards with another three wickets on a good day for spinners, as Milnrow finished their innings on 157 all out in the last over.

At 39-3 the game was delicately poised but some good batting from Long and Williams swung the game in Unsworth’s favour. After a hard fought 70-run partnership, Long fell for 37 leaving Unsworth 107-4.

Opposition slow left armer Wilkinson served up a double wicket maiden, dismissing Williams in the process and leaving the score on 151-9. With seven runs needed, Alex Taylor stepped forward picking up singles and sweeping a winning boundary to end the match in superb style as Unsworth won by one wicket.
