SCOTT Quigg will definitely not be fighting at Bury’s JD Stadium in the foreseeable future after the club confirmed it had shelved plans to host any major events this summer.

Work was due to finish yesterday on a £150,000 project to relay the pitch, including a new drainage and sprinkler system, and a statement released by the club said the grass seed would now be given time to bed in.

“We had hoped to put on our first event this July, but due to the uncertainty of the weather and the growing time, we have shelved all events this summer. The pitch had to come first,” read the statement.

It was revealed, however, that plans were in place to stage a music festival next May, while the club’s directors would continue to work on a deal to host a Quigg title fight.

An announcement over the WBA super-bantamweight champion’s next opponent is expected soon, with a Las Vegas unification fight against WBC title holder Leo Santa Cruz understood to be on the cards.
