BURY schoolboy Luke Bartram has been named the Bury and District Golf Association Junior Champion for 2014.

The 13-year-old, from Ramsbottom, took part in an 18-hole medal competition for under-18s boys and girls to secure the junior championship cup.

The event, which has been running since 1963, was organised by Dot and Rachel Scholes and took place at Pike Fold Golf Club last month.

Bartram played off a handicap of eight and finished strongly with birdies in the last two holes to finish four over gross and overall winner.

The latest success follows on from Bartram’s victory at the Kenilworth Junior Masters in April where he won the John Butler Trophy.

The year nine pupil at Haslingden High School said: “The course was in great condition and the greens were fantastic, which made playing very enjoyable.

“Thank you Dot and Rachel for a really well organised event.”

Bartram, from Rossendale Golf Club, will represent Lancashire County Mixed Age Boys against Durham at Barnard Castle Golf Club on Monday, before taking part in an exclusive Ian Poulter Junior Invitational at Woburn Golf Club on July 21.
