Greenmount have been crowned champions of the Radcliffe Under-11s cricket festival.

A total of eight local clubs entered the event including Radcliffe, Stand, Unsworth, Ramsbottom, Elton, Norden and Bradshaw.

After two round robin groups, Greenmount defeated hosts Radcliffe in their semi-final, with Elton edging out Bradshaw in a close finish in the other.

Greenmount claimed the Wolstenholme Cup with a comfortable victory over Elton in the final, who did have the consolation of taking individual awards for best batsman (Millen Brown) and best bowler (Josh Holt).

Greenmount coach Gareth Williams said: “It was good to see so many young people playing cricket and the standard was very good. It was particularly pleasing for me personally, to play Elton in the final, as I have happy memories from my own playing days at the club.

“It would be great for the Bury clubs to play each other at junior level much more frequently and maybe this is something we can organise at District level.”
