Bury ran out comfortable winners against local rivals Langworthy Reds, but the score was flattering after a tough game in humid conditions.

With a number of the Broncos squad being former Langworthy players – and the visitors confident after a recent victory over league leaders Orrell St James – all was teed up for a close battle.

Scores from Rick Brogan and Anthony Garside sent Bury into an 11-0 lead with Chris Ready tagging the conversion and adding a drop goal.

However, Langworthy’s Chris Winstone scored a converted try on the stroke of half time after Bury knocked on close to the line, to bring them back to within three points.

The visitors were fired up to attack downhill in the second half but Brogan scored his second try, before Sam Donley crashed over to finish off the try of the game as Bury worked the ball left and right and created a gap for him down the centre. The kick made the score 23-6.

Richard West chased down his own chip kick before grounding another try and Garside scored his second for the Broncos before Langworthy added a consolation in the corner late on.

An inexperienced Bury A lost 30-14 at Burnley & Pendle but showed plenty of character in their defeat. The under-16s enjoyed a 24-10 success over Blackpool Stanley, while the u14s cruised to a 68-0 victory at Bamber Bridge Bulldogs.
