Bury stormed to victory in their Golden Girls (Over 60s) interleague game at Elton Vale on Sunday morning.

The hosts declared at 209 in their first innings with four batters remaining and ran out winners by an innings and 106 runs.

Joyce Roscoe was top scorer with 38, closely followed by Val Pierce (37) – each scoring two rounders.

Sandra Rothwell added a couple of rounders on the way to 28 and Lynne Mathers with one rounder also finished on 28 runs.

Bury’s first casualty was Sylvia Davenport who scored one before being dismissed at first base.

Three Bolton batters were out at first base on the first round, one on the second and four on the third as Bury’s bowler-backstop-first base trio accounted for eight dismissals.

The exceptions were Pauline Birtwistle, who was caught out for three, and the last pair of Viv Anderton and Mary Harrison denned for nine and seven, respectively, as Bolton made just 40 in their first innings.

Bolton captain June Duckworth was caught off the first ball of the second innings and three others failed to reach first base.

Rounders by Jean Jones and Elaine Martindale boosted the score, but Bolton were all out for 63 and a match total of 103.
