ROCHDALE substitute Joel Logan bagged a late brace to help the visitors claim a share of the spoils in this pre-season derby, but it was Shakers strikers Danny Nardiello and Ryan Lowe who stole the show with a goal and an assist apiece.

They combined to open the scoring in only the second minute as Lowe’s pull-back from the byline was put into his own net by former Shakers loanee Ashley Eastham, under pressure from Nardiello.

The home side did not have it all their own way in the opening stages as Dale came roaring back and former Bolton Wanderers trainee Rhys Bennett whistled a header just wide from a deep Michael Rose free-kick.

The same players combined for the equaliser in the 10th minute, Bennett tapping in at the far post after Rose’s low cross evaded the Shakers defence.

George Donnelly tested new Bury keeper Shwan Jalal with a low strike that the former Bournemouth stopper cleared with his legs.

After that brief flurry, David Flitcroft’s men slowly seized possession and momentum and ended the half with a real flourish.

Nicky Adams would surely have put them back in front if he had managed to connect with Nardiello’s neat ball to the near post.

It was Nardiello who eventually restored Bury’s advantage, curling the ball into the bottom corner in the 38th-minutre after snappy interplay with Tom Soares in the build-up.

Goalscorer then turned provider as Nardiello found Lowe in the box and the 35-year-old front man checked on to his left boot before placing a shot into the top corner.

The trend continued after the break, with Adams denied a classy fourth. Dale keeper Johny Diba stormed off his line to block the midfielder’s shot after he had run in behind the defence on to a cunning reverse ball from Nardiello.

Diba then had to be on his toes to palm away a 60th-minute free kick from Lowe.

But a flurry of late substitutes changed the game in Rochdale’s favour to hand them a draw they didn’t deserve.

Rose – who would have given Bury left-back Chris Hussey a run for his money if there was a prize for the best crosser of the ball - helped fire Dale back into the game after his deep corner was met by a looping header from Logan in the 68th minute.

Hussey tried in vain to head the ball off the line, but was only able to nod it into the roof of the Bury net.

Rochdale thought they had equalised nine minutes from time when Adam Morgan slid home Peter Vincenti’s low centre, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

But Logan eventually grabbed an 89th-minute leveller, striking through a crowd of bodies from close range after Jalal parried a Rose free-kick to his feet.
