BURY boxing champion Scott Quigg will defend his WBA super bantamweight title against former world champion Paulus Ambunda at Manchester’s Phones 4U Arena next month.

It will be the 25-year-old’s third defence of his belt and the third consecutive bout at the arena on Saturday, September 13.

Ambunda, aged 33, has lost just once in 22 professional fights and is the current WBA and IBF international super bantamweight champion after beating Chilean Cristian Palam in May.

Quigg made light work of his last defence, knocking out South African Tshifhiwa Munyai inside two rounds in April.

His stable mate from Gallagher’s Gym, based at Bolton’s Gloves Community Centre, Anthony Crolla is also on the bill as he takes on former WBC super featherweight champion Gamaliel Diaz in a third defence of his WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said: “We are excited to be back in Manchester in September for another big night.

“Scott and Anthony are becoming regular fixtures at the arena with great support and both are in major fights on September 13.

“Scott is in scintillating form and ready to stamp his authority on the division.”
