In their first pre-season match, Bury RUFC ran out comfortable winners at home to Orrell.

With drainage work ongoing at the Radcliffe Road ground, the match was played at Derby High School.

Orrell took the lead in the fifth minute scoring a try after a series of short drives eventually penetrated the Bury defence.

Bury reduced the deficit to two points from Adam Heath’s penalty before the Bury player also scored the team’s first try after a cutting move involving the centre partnership of Ben and Lawrence Shedwick and speedster Sam Ware.

In a man-of-the-match performance, Heath scored a total of 35 points.

With the score at 10-5 to the hosts, the game went to uncontested scrums due to an injury and Orrell’s lack of available props.

Heath added a penalty and Ben Holland bulldozed his way through several tackles to score another try as the hosts led 26-5 at the break.

The second half continued in the same vein with Bury increasing their lead through the boot of Heath at every opportunity.

The visitors scored their second unconverted try of the afternoon, before a good move from Bury’s Alex English, Callum Patten, Elliott Naylor, Carl Simpson and Jordan Miller was finished by veteran Chris Potts.
