The club travelled to Heckmondwike for the Northern youth and junior league and 4s event on Sunday.

With Stockport leading the 4s contest, the Bury Comets needed to win the match to give themselves a good chance of winning the six-round competition.

After the first six heats, the Comets had taken three wins and a second place to lead by five points at 15-10.

However, Stockport pulled a point back in the next round of six heats as the Comets led 27-23.

By heat 18, Stockport had piled in with four wins to the Comets’ one to lead by two points but Bury struck back immediately to take four wins of their own and by heat 24 were back in front by three points.

The last six heats were crucial but with Stockport taking 14 points out of a possible 16, Bury Comets had it all to do. However 12 points were enough to secure the win by just one point with the final score 65-64.

Bury’s second team, the Meteors, were always in the thick of the middle order races with Kris Ramsden taking two wins and a second to take 14 points and secure fourth place for his team.

Comets scorers: Chris Parrish 18, James Elston 16, Ben Scranage 15, and a gate exclusion, Danny Taylor, 13 from four rides, Neil Howarth, three from one ride.

Two of Bury’s young riders made the journey to the midlands track of East Park for a national round of the British youth and junior league on Saturday.

With a massive turnout of youngsters from all over the country, the event went on for most of the day with Bury’s riders in the u12s and Louis Turner making the D final after some tough racing.

Bury’s other rider Tom Whitwam made the A final and finished in third place to remain in third position in the national u12s table.
